Tie One On…
Hello, hello my friends. Tell me, what’s the first word that comes to mind when I say ukulele? How many said Hawaii? Better yet, who didn’t say Hawaii, and what the heck did you say? A few weeks ago, I got an invite to the 2013 Vancouver Ukulele Festival. What? This past weekend Vancouver hosted it’s second annual ukulele festival. Apparently, ukulele playing is a popular past time here in Vancouver. So much so that there is a ukulele school, Ruby’s Ukes {see it here}, and an annual music festival. Of course I had to attend. I cleared my heavy February schedule, and off I sashayed. But first, a little history on the ukelele, or uke courtesy of Wikipedia. Yes, the ukulele originated in Hawaii, and it’s a spin-off of an instrument akin to a guitar. You can read more at Wiki, here. It was an entertaining evening with sets performed by Black Gardenia, here, as well as many fine Canadian and American performers that traveled from as far south as Portland, Oregon, and as far east as Newfoundland. Oh, and about that heavy February schedule…I confess, it was just the usual puddle jumping.
My big fashion news today is that I am wearing shoes. I always get lighthearted these first few times I wear shoes as winter slips into spring. That being said, boot season is not over. {Sigh, is it ever?} But, we have scored a few good days, and I’m lovin’ my green suede shoes. These shoes and my coral-red sweater partnering with fresh green gingham is definitely putting me on the happy train. And I can’t not comment on my menswear tie. I had a real thing for men’s ties in the late seventies. I did the whole Annie Hall menswear look. My Mom was quite possibly horrified observing me coming home from the Salvation Army with an armload of old man clothes; the vest, the pants, and of course, the ties. Here, I’m keeping it light and bright. I love the vibrant colours in this tie, and I think that with the addition of a little arm candy, the tie looks fresh and fun as opposed to overly masculine.

Soooo cute! I love the shoes and the colors you've got going on today. Great way to invite spring, which I wish would hurry up.
Great tie too, even better in the feminine fabric.
Joni is always just ahead of me! But she's right, it's soooo cute! I love the gingham, the colors, the tie, the action shot of you in the air! Those colors are so vibrant together – they make such a great tomboy outfit!
By the way, I'm getting my new RED glasses this week!

Hello Sue,
not only by wearing shoes but also with your wonderful spring colored outfit you are ushering spring. I love this color combination. And you so active on the pics look fabulous!
Whenever I hear ukulele I think of that great Hawaian singer singing “somewhere over the rainbow”. I love that song remembering me to warm summer nights.
Shoes! So jealous. And they're fab shoes at that. I love your colour combo, Sue, and the jaunty tie. And a ukulele fest – strange yet cool! Xo

Hush puppies have survived forever for a reason. Not horrified, probably more like “what now?!!”
Sooooo spring-time adorable. Northwest style, for sure. A little heavier fabric, suede, but optimistic with color! And you do it with pretty Sue Style. Love your tie, Puppies, and smile.
You're airborne a lot these days … just in the mood to jump, I guess!

First thought that came to mind were those classic war movies.
Woot Woot! So excited about the glasses Val.
Ha Ha… funny but true.
I think you would have enjoyed yourself at the festival Kelly.
Ahem…I bought that gem for under $5.00 at the thrift store. I think it's from H & M. But it's fun, isn't it!
Hush puppies are timeless, aren't they.
Hi Cathy!!! Thanks so much for popping by and taking the time to comment. What a delight for me to be featured in your classes. Thank you bunches.
Readers…Cathy teaches blogging for beginners in my community. It was an awesome way to learn how to create my own blog. I'm sure I would still be 'thinking' about it, had I not taken her class.
Oh yeah, I get that now too Kathleen. Funny, even the colours are translating that way.
Well, let's go shall we…
That coral-y orange sweater is SO pretty and how fun are those green shoes! This outfit has loads of personality.
