Happy Birthday Dr Seuss…

Theodor Seuss Geisel, March 2, 1904 – September 24, 1991

Although Dr Seuss wrote 48 books, I remember but a single one, and that memory is oh so vivid, that it could have been yesterday, and not almost fifty years ago, that I read it, over and over.

Yertle the Turtle and Other Stories

Even to this day, I feel faintly uneasy when I think of Gertrude McFuzz.  Do you remember her?  The bird with only one tail feather who was jealous of her friend that had two.  And then she got some more feathers, and they grew, and they grew.  If my memory serves correct, Yertle the Turtle and Other Stories was not a book dipped in ice cream colours, and topped with chocolate sprinkles.  Page after page of morose turtles, and then…Gertrude.  A part of me was fascinated with Gertrude and her massive tail that spanned two entire pages. But, I’ll be honest and tell you I thought she was ugly.  Which was exactly the point of the story…a lesson about vanity. It wasn’t, after all, a story about ugliness, and magic pills, and massive tails.

Okay, my little story has absolutely nothing to do with my photo…those are trees, not tails.
I hope you enjoy a little of the beauty that is my world.

Yes, my mountain is waiting… Saturday is the busiest night at our restaurant. However, now I'm looking at it just a bit more positively!
    Thanks, Sue!

My Dr. Seuss book that I read over and over was The Sneetches and Other Stories. I had them almost all memorized, and loved them all. Well, I wasn't crazy about the pale green pants with nobody inside 'em.
