THE TRAVELLING YELLOW SKIRT LOOKS LIKE SNOW

IT’S HERE!!  IT’S HERE!!

The Travelling Yellow Skirt Freak Show

is back in Vancouver!  And on my doorstep!  For those of you that have been following the yellow skirt saga, welcome to my inspired version!  And for my readers not yet familiar with the travels of said yellow skirt, please allow me to briefly tell the tale.  One day, a long long time ago, Melanie, of Bag and a Beret wore a yellow skirt.  It was a beautiful yellow skirt, and she happily twirled and whirled to her heart’s content.  It seems though, that the sunny yellow skirt had a negative effect on one of Melanie’s friends.  One so deep as to incite him to leave a very critical comment on her blog.  Her loyal followers, dismayed by the news, rallied behind her, and, at the suggestion of Sarah of Misfits Vintage, The Travelling Yellow Skirt Freak Show was born!  The skirt has been flying magically around the globe for just over a year now, sprinkling fairy dust and positivity wherever it lands.  It’s a party!  It’s a celebration!  It’s positivity!  It’s the…

I-surrender-to-positivity celebration!

And lucky me, having the good fortune to be able to join the party!
I knew my inspiration for the skirt from the moment I saw it.  It’s massively too long for me, but I believe that adds to the charm.  All the clothing in my outfit, with the exception of the red scarf {which I quickly sewed}, was already in my everyday wardrobe.  When I added the yellow skirt, it was magic!

At the end of the day, all I can say is that I had a blast styling the yellow skirt!  When I first received it, I was a bit surprised to see the Joe Fresh label.  You know how I love me my Joe Fresh clothing, but I’m pretty sure I would have given this skirt a wide berth had I seen it in the store.  It’s only a size 4, and it’s a whole lot of skirt.  The fact that I feel like a princess wearing it is proof that surrendering to positivity really does work!  While out taking these photos, the mister and I encountered many people out walking with their children and their dogs.   I was delighted to see that the littles were completely enchanted…one little guy was stopped in his tracks, a few called me by name, and even the dogs saw me as a kindred spirit.   A very good afternoon it was…and, as promised, the yellow skirt is once again on the move.  Where, you ask?  It’s enroute to the ever creative Pao of Project Minima!  Pao, I can not wait to see your inspired version!

Okay, that’s all for now.  I’m so happy you stopped by.  Here is Melanie’s page with a complete list, photos and links to all of the previous yellow skirt wearers.  Please do check them out.

EDIT:  Is the Travelling Yellow Skirt for you?  Of course it is!  A big thank you to Shelley of Forest City Fashionista for handling the yellow skirt’s travel schedule.  And for those that hesitate after reading size 4…do not fear.  It has a draw string waist, and the skirt is voluminous.  It’s also long enough for the leggiest of you.  If you must know, I had to use a prop in my photos, LOL.  All righty, further details and Shelley’s email are on Melanie’s page.   Oh, and thanks ever so much for all your wonderful comments!  I will be replying and answering questions as soon as I’m able.  xo

One of my all time favourites for the skirt. Simply magical.

Sue, I'm verklempt, as I said I get sometimes. I'm laughing because I am so enchanted by what you've done with the FYS. Clearly you felt her magical powers and they spilled deliciously over every living creature near you. The magic of the skirt and lantern even allowed you to shrink down into the size of the fairy door. Thank you for this brilliant interpretation!

Sue, you are magical! I believe in positivity, and you have reaffirmed my faith! In fact, that prayer of the woods brought a tear to my eye – those trees are such strong sentinels and they were doing their best poses for your photo shoot.

But you really steal the show! I love seeing Snow White grown up into a woman of style, and I love your calm and smiling face. Thanks for bringing magic to my weekend!

Sue, you ARE Snow White! I just love what you've done – so magical. I'm surprised JF did a skirt like this as it doesn't seem to fit with the brand's preppy style. And I too would never have considered it in the store. It's been a great experience seeing what others hVe done with it. And thanks for backstory. I commented on that initial post early on, and missed the hoopla that followed completely. Not sure how I did … Xo

Ahhh, what a delightful post, Sue. You did Snow White and the Yellow Skirt proud in one of the best renditions ever. A great combo and a great woods to be able to play it out in. wow. Can't wait to see the TYS in person for the holidays.

  • Reply No fear of fashion December 1, 2013 at 7:49 am

This is so nice!!! I had heard about the yelllow skirt on Melanie's blog but did not know what it was about. Thanks for explaining. I think you have done a wonderful job. I love every bit of it. You remind me of Snow White.
I greedily was thinking… could this skirt make it abroad? To The Netherlands? But then you said it is a size 4.. my waist is 8-10. Which would mean I have to leave it open quite a bit.
Oh and by the way.. there is a sentence in your story: You know how I love me my Joe Fresh clothing, but I'm prett”. Should the “me” be in this sentence?

  • Reply Sue @ A Colourful Canvas December 1, 2013 at 9:48 am

Absolutely, the skirt travels the globe! I know that bloggers in the UK are patiently awaiting their turns, and Dan of Italy has hinted at some interest too! Do add your name to the list Greetje! We'd love to see it styled in your inimitable style. And you caught me on poor English…the me is intended and as we say in English, it is called slang. A stylized method of speech.

  • Reply Sue @ A Colourful Canvas December 1, 2013 at 9:57 am

Oh, and I meant to say that the skirt will fit many, many sizes! Voluminous and a draw-stringed waist make it very flexible.
