Hi you. Whew…this little project was a very long time in coming together. Way…waaaaay…back in early June, I participated in Gillian’s #sewingdares challenge. My unique dare was to sew something inspired by a childhood outfit. The wheels turned and I cranked out my Matchy Wear. It was a fun way for me to focus in on a project, and so…feeling brave…I asked readers for another dare. As it turned out, only my cousin Curtise* stepped up. She dared me to make a jumpsuit. Believe it or not, I couldn’t wait to get started…the reality that it’s taken 4 months to get to completion boggles me. I mean…I began plotting my Anne Klein jumpsuit pretty much the moment Curtise commented. I first made Vogue Pattern 2671 in 1981 for my brother’s wedding….yes I know….the photos aren’t the best….and no, the camera was not just invented…but you can see bits of my outfit behind the very pretty bridal bouquet that was tossed, quite literally and unexpectedly, directly at me. I chose the fabric after buying the shoes…those gorgeous red, white and blue Italian sandals. For my second make, I used a light blue chambray solid on the bottom and a narrow striped blue and white chambray on the top…I rolled up the cuffs a few times and wore it with white tennies….a much more casual look. I found the pattern on ebay quickly. But. It took forever to find fabric! It wasn’t until last month, that I finally shopped my own stash and found this stripey blue fabric purchased from a local thrift shop. It’s either cotton or rayon…I’m betting cotton because the wrinkling isn’t too bad. The dark navy is…eeps…polyester. Not sure how I feel about that….I love me my natural fibers. But you know what? Desperate can’t be choosy. I did my usual alterations to the pattern, shortening the pants and the bodice. I also drafted the neckline smaller because I remember it slipping around and showing bra straps. As I’m between sizes and the fit is generous, I sized down for this make. Even so…after construction…I shortened the sleeves and nipped in the side seams of the bodice. Yes I agree…a size smaller would present a more pleasing silhouette…but these old patterns have only one size per envelope.
