Who doesn’t love floral with a side of gingham? Rhetorical question. I’m really saying

Who doesn’t love floral with a side of gingham!

I think wardrobe separates are a great opportunity for some fun pattern mixing. You can dial up or tone down according to your comfort level, no long term commitment required.

For the peplum top, I used the bodice from Simplicity 2444, and added a peplum following these instructions: Burda Style: How To Draft A Peplum. A big thank you to Hana of Velvet Ribbon for sharing the Burda link on her blog post here! Pants are Cynthia Rowley for Simplicity 1783. I think I can finally say I have a pants pattern that’s right for me. Yes, I made a few alterations…but I both documented and pattern drafted all the tweaks. I do NOT like the front patch pockets on the original pattern, so I switched those to….errrr…normal pockets…my bad, but I can’t seem to find the correct words to describe the pockets I made. Can we blame it on age? Somebody, please somebody identify my pocket design! The other, probably obvious, tweak was to skinny up, or slim down, the leg seams, both inseam and side seam.

I’m always, always, finding inspiration from your blogs, thank you! Glenda of So What To Twenty, blogged about peplum tops here and here. Thanks Glenda, both for the inspiration, and for the video link! Readers, consider this fair warning: Her second link will get you dancing!

Bracelet stack…me-made…simple beaded bracelets, and a narrow, wire-wrapped, beaded cuff.

And that’s all she wrote. today. The weather is lovely, and all this floral has me yearning for my own bit of outdoor paradise. There’s no pretending in this post…no jacket, no problem!

I love the print mix, and the colours are so pretty and suit you perfectly. As always your photos convey such joy, I do enjoy seeing them. Beautiful bracelets too, clever you.

I want to change my name to Coral Floral now! Maybe Gingham could be my middle name.

That song Happy is so catchy. I first heard about it when Curtise mentioned it and I went to find it on YouTube. It's great!

I love your patterns, and that amazing detail you put into everything. And to top it all off, gold high heels on the beach! You glow and reflect all kinds of happiness!

Sue, you are so sweet and kind. Thank you for the lovely words and for linking. As you know, I have been a huge fan of the peplum since I studied the history of apparel in college. We can thank Christian Dior for inventing this look.

I think the floral with gingham is fabulous and you look super stylish, fun and spirited. You nailed it!

Good things come to those who wait, eh? I'd been missing my infusion of Sue and you do not disappoint. “Coral Floral” indeed! It must be a pattern mix party in our part of the blogoverse, eh? But yours is so much livelier and happier than mine – it's the color, I tell ya! You do it so well.

Side note: your backdrop/lighting is brilliant! Did you use filters at all or are these au naturel? Regardless, j'adore!

GAH…I am taking a beginner's photography class and after discussing light balance last week, I changed my setting to incandescent light to take a couple of indoor photos. I forgot to change it back to *auto*, and hubby knew something was off about the exposure, but it didn't occur to him that light balance needed resetting. So! I had to do some editing. In the end, I think the clothing and my skin colour etc., looks pretty accurate, but the water! Pretty brilliant blue for the Pacific Northwest, LOL.

Could your “normal” pockets be the side seam inseam pockets? I can't tell from the photos. Great outfit!

  • Reply Sue @ A Colourful Canvas May 15, 2014 at 5:02 pm

Well, I did a quick google look, and apparently they are stitched rounded pockets. Who knew.

Yes Glenda is a good stylist. I had been looking at her peplum tops as well. Loving it. But I don't have your skills. This looks so lovely. Both the top and the trousers. So well done. You can be proud of yourself.
And again, as always, the perfect shoes to go with it. Very modern, very 2014. Are they gold or silver? I think gold. Well both are in fashion. I am totally in love with my silver slingbacks and thinking about buying gold as well.

  • Reply Trina May 18, 2014 at 7:48 pm

Coral and Floral, a big yes! Ginham with floral, another big Yes! I knew right when I spotted this that you had made that wonderful peplum top because I've been searching high and low for one with sleeves and I don't think they exists. That is, unless you are Sue and talented enough to create your own perfectly fitting, floral peplum. And choose your own color to match the perfectly fitted patterned pants. You just make me smile. What a gift you have, beautiful lady.

Wowee! Really perfection, as you know. Pretty and very, very you! Running out of superlatives that retain their meaning for all your sewing successes. Okay, pink gold pumps … you've really got the hang of mid-heels! Absolutely the best choice for pastels! Keeps the sugar overload that can happen with pastels from happening and adds sophistication. Of course!

I love it when the clothes tell me exactly who the wearer is – without being so overwhelming the look becomes costumey. The colors and patterns are perfect together and scream, “I'm an exuberant woman!” I love it 😉
