Ringing in the New Ear…

I have already confessed to a general lack of enthusiasm for the hoopla of New Year’s Eve. But I do not want you to confuse that with a lack of enthusiasm for the new year.  I am always eager to create a new self in January.  New year, new me!  Health, fitness, personal goals, professional goals, all great topics of conversation at the beginning of the year.  And they are just that; bits of conversation that roll easily off the tongue with no real intention of ever becoming reality.  But this year, I have my little blog, and I have you, my loyal readers. And so, I will share with you a goal, a fervent wish really, that I intend to reach this year, twenty thirteen.  I have tinnitus, and have had this ringing in my ears for over 2-1/2 years.  I have tried without success to eliminate this annoying affliction with acupuncture, NAET, homeopathics, flower essences, meditation, essential oils, Graham Stetzer filters, and diet.  To date, nothing has effectively eliminated the tinnitus.  I optimistically like to think that if I was not trying all these different healing techniques, that my ears would be ringing much louder than they currently do.  What causes it?  Well, I’m not exactly sure, but testing has revealed that an electromagnetic frequency sensitivity, as well as menopause could be the cause.  I have diligently reduced my exposure to EMF, I’ve never had a cell phone {gasp}, and I lovingly nourish my kidney chi.  But still the ringing continues.  I could figuratively roll over and accept the intrusion, but I believe that the ringing in my ears is a sign of an imbalance in my body.  And it is my intention to resolve the disharmony, if not this minute, at least sometime this year.  From time to time I will update you on my progress.  If any of you have any suggestions for me, please feel free to share.  Wish me luck please.  I’ve been trying to resolve this for some time now.

So, about the outfit.  The photos were snapped just a couple of days ago.  It’s obviously a casual version of the outfit in my most recent post.  Appropriate attire for a little people watching, in particular those brave souls that go for a Polar Bear Swim on New Years Day.  But really, who was I kidding when I thought I could wear this on New Years Day?  Sure, it’s a dandy way to let people know I’ve just docked my sailboat {kidding}, but baby it’s cold out here.  This is what I ended up enveloped in today…

These photos are of my local community’s Polar Bear Swim.  Clear skies, and temps above freezing make for happy swimmers, {I guess}.  The biggie, Vancouver’s Polar Bear Swim, is in it’s 93rd year and attracts a much larger crowd.  I’m proud to say that I have not so much as dipped a toe in our chilly waters on New Years Day.  Does your community have a quirky New Years Day tradition?

Wishing you a splendid New Year my dear! Fabulous photos!

Fellow islanders plunged yesterday — luckily they were one day ahead of the frost we woke up to this morning: It's chilly out there!
I did go wading up to my waist after a long run on Monday — the cold seems to do some anti-inflammatory work, plus it feels invigorating after a long run AND I'm wearing long pants, long-sleeved shirt (all tech wear that handles the water just fine). But I draw the line at simply plunging in, then out, in a swimsuit at this time of year!

Thank you for the bright wishes Tamera!

Wading up to your waist is pretty impressive! It sounds as though the premise of cold water after a long run is similar to hot/cold hydrotherapy. Your body is likely pretty warmed up before you enter the ocean. Good for you!

You are looking so good in these photos and the ones before as well. The phrase “you are really coming into your own” is in my mind……

Great photos! And I am not one for dipping toes or anything into chilly water! Ha ha! We have a meal that we always cook (as does everyone else around here): collards, black-eyed peas, and ham. Supposed to bring good luck and fortune throughout the year!

I love the combo of gold shoes and navy blazer! The polar bear swim looks fun (though I don't think I could ever do it myself).

There's those gorgeous mountains again! It looks cold – I don't think I could ever do a Polar Bear Swim.

I've heard that there's nothing physically you can do for tinnitus, but there is some kind of hypnotherapy or other psychological approach to learning how to not notice it. I may be wrong, but that's all I know.

I love the ribbons in your shoes!

Aw, thanks Shirl. I'm working on it, that's for sure.

Sounds like yummy southern food. I hope you have lots of good luck and good fortune throughout 2013.

Yes, Mount Baker and the smaller mountains around it…not the north shore mountains though. Even with sunny skies, it is pretty cold water.

It is fun to watch, and to listen to all the screaming, LOL. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Oh no! It is always sad when a coveted pair get away. 🙁

Just a warning…I do have a couple more pairs of gold lovelies; they are my favourite.

Let's put it this way. I find the water cold in July and August, 🙂

Thanks for your input on helping with tinnitus. I have a friend that is a hypnotherapist. I should talk to her about it.

I forget to mention in the post, that I added the ribbons. The original laces were Boring with a capitol B.

i think believing and having faith that you will cure it goes a really long way to helping. i wish you the best of luck. and yes, i love new years, too for the fresh start. i was just saying that we should have this enthusiasm at the beginning of every month instead of every year!

  • Reply Sue @ A Colourful Canvas January 3, 2013 at 10:15 am

    Thanks Deanne!

  • Reply Sue @ A Colourful Canvas January 3, 2013 at 10:16 am

Oh yes, I agree about the belief and faith! What a great concept; celebrating the beginning of each month with the enthusiasm we have for the new year! I will try that.

Sue, if you figure out how to cure the ear ringing, please let me know. I have had that for years and sometimes I can ignore it and sometimes it drives me up the wall!
Very nice outfit and I really like the fun laces in your shoes.

Absolutely, Debbi! When I find a solution, or answer, or cure, I will email you personally.

So glad you commented on my blog so I could “meet” you 🙂 I love your fun curls, and those metallic loafers are too cute.

My husband suffers from tinnitus as well, so I understand your frustration. His doctors blamed his on years of drumming. Some days are worse than others, and I wish there was an easy solution!

Happy New Year, wishing you health and happiness in 2013 🙂

Megan, thank you so much for stopping by and commenting. Sorry to hear that your husband has tinnitus too. I think there are more people suffering from tinnitus than I expected.
