Those that know me well, know I am fond of all creatures, great and small.   Marley and Me was a three hankie movie, and errant bees and spiders that find their way into our home are carefully escorted back to the outdoors via a mason jar.  My love for cats is a relatively recent affair; I was thirty {okay maybe not so recent} when I fell under the spell of the felis catus.  Puss was a stray hanging around the building after being abandoned by an uncaring neighbour.   Cats were not permitted in our building, but Puss didn’t know that, and frankly had he known, he would have assumed his good looks and easy going personality would be enough to turn the silly rule on it’s head.  At first, we would sneak him in at night, lulling ourselves to sleep with the sound of his throaty purr.  After his morning meal, he would slip out the window, belly full, and ready for a day of exploration.  We easily fell into a comfortable routine as spring slipped into summer.  It was likely about the time when summer faded into autumn, that things changed.  The large, old radiator in the front entry of the building started it’s customary hissing and popping as it did every fall.  And lo and behold, upon my arrival home from work one day, I was lazily greeted by Puss. He was contentedly stretched out atop the radiator, one eye open,  a little dampness on his belly from a recent tongue bath.  While I retrieved our mail from the old fashioned bank of mail boxes, Puss performed his quintessential cat stretch, then jumped down and headed towards his front door.  I was completely hooked.  Hypnotized by his golden eyes.  Each day I looked forward to coming home, eager to step into the toasty foyer and be warmly greeted by my cat. Come winter, Puss rarely went out, much preferring to bask in the weak rays of sunlight that gently patterned the living room.  He didn’t stay long with us.  I think a year, maybe a few months more, before he crossed to the light.  But, I have no doubt, those were the golden years of his life.  And for me, well that was the start of my endless love affair with cats.

As I sat down to write this little post, I actually had something else in mind.  About cats?  Absolutely yes, but I quickly realized that my original idea was more a middle of the book post.  And, despite this little blog’s random approach to pretty much everything, it seemed in this case, best to start at the beginning.
Okay, now I get to ramble on about my outfit.  First off, notice the inside out jacket in the first pic.  Whoops!  It’s bad enough that half my photos go in the trash bin due to either closed eyes, blurry body parts, or a completely awkward pose.  Second, what’s up with these Polo Jeans by Ralph Lauren?   It’s true, I love me the colour something fierce, but, {and you knew that was coming, didn’t ya?} I admit I’m a little confused about the fit.    Since my last wear {see a before here}, I’ve narrowed the leg line, and I’m wearing them cuffed, which I like.  But, I’m feeling kinda like there’s a whole lot of room  for man bits if you know what I mean.   You see it too, don’t you?   Every time I wear these jeans, I find myself double checking the label.  After all, they zip on the boy side. But sure enough, the label says Cropped Saturday Jean and the size says 8.  These have gotta be a gal’s jean…I think.  The tee with the gold metallic had me at hello.  I usually pass on embellished t-shirts; as I find that they tend not to wear well.  But, I’ve had this gem for a year now.  I’m ever so careful when I launder it, and the extra work of turning it inside out {Whoop} has been totally worth it.

I honestly didn't notice the weirdness in the crotch until you pointed it out – now I see it… it almost looks like they're a little large in the waist on you so they're creating that bulge there. Either way, I really didn't notice at first glance!

Love this cherry tree lined street – so pretty 🙂 And that tee is adorable.

I love the story of Puss, and what a handsome boy he was! I've been loving cats for about 35 years, and no slowing down now (there's a cat's butt in my post today). You have a kind heart.

Your colorful outfit is fab, and I do see some roominess in the crotchular area . . . maybe a size 6 for your next pair? Wonderful tee, and how did you manage to blend so well with the gorgeous scenery?

Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday!

Love this look! I'm not big on commenting, but I just wanted to let you know that you have been an inspiration to me. I have been having a difficult time with DYT, trying to determine my type. I thought I was a T3, but had a nagging feeling that it just wasn't right. In part thanks to you, I now know I am a bright type 1, and have even lightened my curly auburn hair to a shade similar to yours. Thanks for all the idea. You keep posting, and I'll keep reading. Thank you,
    Karen

Lovely as always. First off, I love your story about Puss, there is just something about the love of animals that does our heart some good.
For your fashion part, the photo's and surroundings couldn't be more perfect, seriously they are so beautiful. As for your Ralph Polo jeans (by the way, great color), they look to me to be more of a boyfriend fit, which is exactly how they are supposed to be fitting. Great idea to cuff and wear them with heels. Plus, they look amazing on you and very flatterying.
I still need to come for a visit to be among those trees. WOW

Sue, my first thought was “what a gorgeous outfit for spring and the alley of cherry-trees is the perfect backdrop”, or do you choose the outfit for particularly this background?
But I understand how you feel in the jeans. They are a bit boyish style. The cut, not the color. Nevertheless don't worry, they suit you well. And they accentuate your feminine look. To wear them cuffed give you a stylish cool look.
Cats are so clever, they always find the perfect tin-opener 😀

Cute outfit and those trees–wow!! I see what you mean about the fit, that is a little odd, but could come in handy if the hubby decides to take you out for a filling dinner 😉

  • Reply JaneB May 6, 2013 at 10:21 am

Really summery outfit and the color – perfect for the background. I used to live in Vancouver years ago and remember the blossoms in my friend's street over near the endowment lands.
    Just lovely

Your cat is so adorable, gorgeous eyes for sure. Now moving to your pants topic, I think their fit is more like boyfriend style, therefore, it will be extra fabric around the front. This is more obvious with this style pants when they sit low in the hips. You look great anyways and i must mention your sandals really compliment the cuffed look in your pants.

I've always loved cats, but haven't had one of my own for about 25 years. Seeing all the bloggers' cats has given me pause to reconsider, but I do like the freedom of not having to cover the butter dish, put away clothes lying on the bed, worry about who will feed a pet when we're gone.

I love pink and orange together, so this outfit is so pretty to me! I did notice the pants looked a little baggy in the front, but if they're belted I figured that explained it, right?

I wore a similar outfit, but opposite, last Friday – blue denim skirt, pattered blue t-shirt, and salmon denim jacket. With my straight (formerly dark) hair, I'm your mirror image!

You have been talking of your Puss in a moving way. I always say we human beings have a lot to learn from animals.
By the way, I like the colour of your shirt and pants… and the beautiful tres behind you!

Another great outfit. Didn't notice anything untoward with the pants until you mentioned it. Not too sure men would appreciate the “bits” reference lol
So happy you & Puss found each other even if for a brief time. Pets give us so much love & ask for so little in return.

Hi Karen, Thanks so much for commenting! You've really brightened my day with your kind words. I am happy to hear that your DYT journey is starting to feel right. I was quite lucky, I think, as I knew straight off I was a type one. So many of us do find it takes much more self-exploration to determine our type, and I think that's totally okay. It's a way of getting to know ourselves again, and even though I determined my type right away, I've had so many Ah Ha moments myself.

Ha Ha, you're right, must cover the butter dish, and it never fails; if I lay clothing on the bed, Mia will find them irresistible. We are ever so lucky to have a wonderful cat sitter though!

I remember the outfit you wore. You're right, it was the negative image!

You fit right in with those cherry blossoms, madly blooming. Love your colour. I wouldn't have noticed the man bulk. And still, I think those pants are wonderful. I would say they are a “comfort” fit. I have pants like that – I wonder if they were made for women because they seem to be made half and half. Maybe the manufacturers make mistakes and so they end up in thrift shops even though they're new… It's a mystery.
Your cat is family. I loved your story.

  • Reply Bella Q May 8, 2013 at 8:30 am

What a beautiful view- blue and pink playing off eachother and the perfect foil for the springtime blossoms. You are blooming madly!

Sue, yes the Chihuly garden is next to the Space Needle. Absolutely marvelous exhibit. I was indifferent before to Dale Chihuly's work, but no longer. Awe inspiring and nature embellishing art.

Whoa, the lighting in those trees! So pretty, it matches your outfit to a tee. My boyfriend jeans do that weird slouchy crotch thing too. Puss looks like he was a lovely cat.

  • Reply Laurie May 8, 2013 at 12:16 pm

Awww! What a lovely story about Puss. We're currently cat sitting. The owner feels she needs to pay us. I can't convince her that having a cat in the house again is our payment.

Maybe Monsieur Lauren thought we women could use the built-in space in the front of those jeans for storage. You could keep a money belt, or a ferret in there.

Oh, and in case I forgot to mention it, you look stunning! Leave it to you to out-spring spring!

Sue, it looks like you threw a giant party with nature as your guest! GORGEOUS photography to say nothing of how beautiful you look. Alas, we have found our first dividing point: I am afraid of cats! It's a full-blown phobia. Weird, but true. But the funny thing is, I'm always drawn to people who love cats. What's up with that? Is it God's way of telling me to get over it? Have a wonderful weekend, doll. As always, you delight me!

HONESTLY my first thought was “this is sooo Sue” … I pictured you on a beach in a rain coat with his piece of art umbrella!!!! It looks like a water-color Van Gogh of a European city, AMAZING!!! I can't believe it was only $3.99, the label is in another language. I will feature it on “Friday Finds” next week! pippa
