Oh Snap : : My Megan Nielsen Darling Ranges Dress : : But Not

Hiya  peeps. I’m back…with a hack. Actually, it’s not a hack at all. It’s just a different way of interpreting a pattern. Gaaaaah….I really can’t do this without giving you the back story… When this fabric showed up at Blackbird Fabrics, I was excited. It’s fun. It’s different. It’s something I’ve not seen in brick and mortar stores.  It’s a cable quilted jersey. I bought both blue and white colour ways. As of publishing there’s still white and black in stock.  After handling it I determined I wanted to make a long, slightly swingy sweater. The Blackwood Cardigan was a contender but ideally I wanted my cardigan to close with fasteners…more on that later. I searched my pattern stash. No luck. I trolled the Internet. Nada. I was getting frustrated…why couldn’t I find a long cardigan sweater similar…

Cleo Dungaree Dress| | A Tilly and the Buttons Pattern : : Rise Turtleneck | | A Papercut Pattern : : #2018MakeNine

Hallo. Hallo. Up today…the Cleo Dungaree Dress by Tilly and the Buttons and the Rise Turtleneck by Papercut Patterns…a brief chat about my #2018MakeNine progress…and some love for another Canadian online fabric store. In an effort to build a more wearable handmade wardrobe, I’ve been musing much. Which of my makes are getting  the most wear? Which ones are not getting any love? And…perhaps most important…why? What RTW garments are high in the rotation list? What is my ideal wearable wardrobe anyways? Wearable. Curated. Cohesive. I admit, it can feel like work…trying to figure it out. But. I want to do this. My current love it; buy it; sew it system feels flawed. I haven’t been following a method…no online programs or books…but #2018MakeNine has definitely been a positive first step.  The exercise of choosing nine things to sew….all…

My Lara Sanner Truffle Coat : : #2018MakeNine

Hey you! I’m back and on track with my #2018MakeNine goals. Although I have a couple of my nine makes already in the bag, today’s show and tell is my Truffle Coat by Pattern Designer Lara Sanner.  Last summer I sewed her inaugural women’s pattern, the Salt and Pepper Dress. I’ve since been looking forward to the next pattern in her line. Lara Sanner, and others, have sewn both winter and raincoat versions of the Truffle Coat.  Me…I seem to be adverse to anything but down during our chilliest months. I just don’t love heavy {weighted} clothing. However beautiful, my lined wool coats never seem to get much wear. So, does anybody remember my Birds on a Branch Minoru Jacket?  I have so much love for this make that is sadly beginning to show it’s…

The Perth Dress : : A Carolyn & Cassie Pattern Co New Release

Well hiya. Back again. And soon. Today, it’s all about my tester version of The Perth Dress by Carolyn & Cassie Pattern Co. Many of you already know Carolyn via her blog Handmade by Carolyn. This is Carolyn’s first pattern release. Her daughter Cassie was so enormously helpful with all things techie that they decided to make it a shared creative partnership. The Perth Dress gives a nod to menswear style with its traditional collar stand and generously shaped collar. If you love a good shirt dress, but dislike buttonholes, this is a make for you. The silhouette even has a traditional back yoke….Carolyn includes instructions for the burrito method of installation.  Like every good pattern drafter, Carolyn has included in-seam pockets in the dress version.  When I make my next Perth I will set…
