Sometimes, when my featured outfit is not that colourful, I wonder if I disappoint my readers. After all, I am A Colourful Canvas. Will the bloggy police come a calling? Gak! I hope not. Perhaps I can make up for my more muted colour palette today with a playful mix of pattern and texture. As much as I love colour, my newly discovered fascination with faux fur is front and centre in this post. It’s all about the fur vest. Back in December, I had the brilliant idea of making a fun, faux fur vest. As things will go sometimes, I had next to no luck in finding faux fur. Chintz and Company had nary a single faux fur textile and Fabricland’s few choices were completely unsuitable for the stylish vest I had in mind. Fast forward to a few weeks ago, and an impromptu visit to my local Sally Ann. Bam! There it was. A vest so exactly like the one I envisioned, and already impeccably tailored, and perfectly sized, at only $9.99. Thrifting can be like that. It’s essential to have an open mind and expect the unexpected. I’m so smitten with my treasure, I’m sure I’ll be wearing it every day until the weather dictates otherwise. It’s so much fun to wear. It’s funny, but I feel like I’ve had this vest forever. I wasn’t sure why this article of clothing had such a familiar feeling to it, until one evening when I went to pet my cat who was curled up in the chair in my bedroom. Oops! Turns out, it wasn’t my cat at all. It was my vest. There’s a saying that dogs look like their owners. Could it be that I look like my cat? All I can say is that I have a better understanding of why cats can seem so superior. Surely, it’s because they feel so dang pretty in their fur coats.

Oh, I like your subtle, subdued tones. They look good on you just as much as your more colourful choices. And wearing Mia fits right in, lol.

Your fake fur vest is wonderful! I can really see how warm and cosy it is. I love the pattern mix with the dotted scarf and bag, great idea!
Of course Mia in her fur coat is amazing too.
I think you should wear what you feel, and I think you look fabulous in and without colour.

Yes, you figured out why cats are so superior — it's the fabulous coats. : > This vest is just yummy and congrats on finding it! Thanks for linking up too!
What beautiful eyes and fur coats you and Mia have! That is a perfect vest and so cool that you found it at such a great price. Everything else is prefect with it.
As to the colors. The colors you are wearing are all colors, so therefore it is still a colorful canvas even if the colors are not vivid but instead are muted. You look lovely.
oh my, i love this vest!! it's so pretty and fits you perfectly! great find. and yes, i never thought about why cats felt so superior…it makes perfect sense now!
This is the most charming outfit! You wear plenty of color, so do not worry. ( I sometimes feel a little harangued by fashion pundits who nag everyone to desert neutrals for color-at-all-costs! ) Not only do you look adorable, but there's a very appealing visual pun going between the polka-dots and the “nature-dots” (for lack of a better descriptor) that makes you look not only fashion-smart, but brainy as well. In my book, it doesn't get any better than that!
Did I mention that I love this look?
You look great!

What a precious cat. I use to have one that looked just like it. She lived nearly 19 years!
You're wearing a beautiful fuzzy vest too. In fact, I like yours better than my blue one. I know what you mean about not wearing color though. My blog is called “walking colors” but I often wear neutrals and black. In the beginning my blog wasn't even going to be a personal style blog.
I don't think your readers are disappointed. I know I'm not!
Hi Sue! That's lovely! And very cool tutorial for the scarf! I LOVE altering things! xoxo Lynn PS — Oh, and your outfit does not disappoint at all! You are about color, but also love the way you've styled texture and patterns!
Don't we look cute together?! She's just happy to be outside for a moment.
I could wear dots everyday Sabine. Thanks for stopping by.
You always have a beautiful way of getting to the essence of the subject. Thanks for that! xo
Yes, you know cats as well as I do Patti. Thanks for hosting VM.
Ah, thanks Debbi. I like your perspective on colour being colour muted or bright.
Oooh, my polka dots against the nature-dots was intentional. So very pleased that you noticed!
Thank you so much Regine.
Ah, 19 years is a nice senior age for a Miss Kitty.
I think it's important that we allow our blogs to be fluid, and to express who we are at any given time. I really get that from your blog and your thoughtful way with words.
If you do a take on the scarf idea, I would love to see it. I'm sure it would be romantic and vintage-y in an awesome way.
Thanks for flying in and leaving a tweet Two Birds!
I love that fur vest! It looks so warm and cozy! It's such a good feeling to find something very specific that you've been looking for while thrifting.

Clearly you don't need literal colour to show your vibrance. And I have to say that I love all your textures in front of the dumpster. Unexpected juxtapositions are great visual gifts.
PS. Dressew has tons of faux fur if you need to go hunting again. 🙂
Lucky find! I've also been keeping an eye out for a faux fur vest over the past year or so, and never quite been convinced . . . . That one's perfect and you absolutely can't beat the price!
It's rewarding to hear that you liked my attempt at art in photography.
Thank You, Thank You! Dressew…otherwise known as CandyLand was next on my list. I just wish they would be open later than the obscure time of 5:15pm, LOL. {That's where I purchased the fabric for my green jacket.}
Hopefully your vest will turn up for you soon! Thanks for visiting.
Yes! The thrill of the hunt is fun…the score is sweet!

Yes, isn't the cat always the diva.

Thank you Amy. Thanks for your kind comment.
I love how you mix and match, the dots on the fur vest, with the dots on your scarf and the striped shirt, absolutely lovely 🙂
