Who doesn’t love floral with a side of gingham? Rhetorical question. I’m really saying Who doesn’t love floral with a side of gingham! I think wardrobe separates are a great opportunity for some fun pattern mixing. You can dial up or tone down according to your comfort level, no long term commitment required. For the peplum top, I used the bodice from Simplicity 2444, and added a peplum following these instructions: Burda Style: How To Draft A Peplum. A big thank you to Hana of Velvet Ribbon for sharing the Burda link on her blog post here! Pants are Cynthia Rowley for Simplicity 1783. I think I can finally say I have a pants pattern that’s right for me. Yes, I made a few alterations…but I both documented and pattern drafted…
Marion Cotillard in Midnight In Paris Dress: here Midnight in Paris, a Woody Allen film! Bonsoir mes cheries! I’m not sure where the time went, but it’s May and another Project Sewn Season is upon us. This time round, I’ve done me a little Project Sewn homework…a little prep work shall we say…for my upcoming makes. I think it was back in early March when I realized that my wardrobe could use some mixable pieces…some tops, and bottoms. Since that announcement, I’ve sewn a grand total of one top, and one skirt. So, I definitely have pants and a few more tops on the wish list. And, just so you know, the sum of my prep work was basically just that; wish-ful thinking…okay, that and some pattern and fabric selection. But, but, but…another dress,…
It started with the zipper on my green skirt. I wore it…um, once maybe?…and then the zipper got snickety at the point where the waistband meets the skirt. Too many layers of fabric perhaps? not. sure. don’t. care. My attempts to close the zipper were unsuccessful to say the very least. I ended up derailing the dang thing. I was not happy. A new make, one I really quite like, with a hapless, broken zipper. Lucky for me, I managed a save. I was able to cut the bottom stop off of the zipper and reattach…er…that’s not the right word…what is the word for when you manage to get the zipper pull tab back onto both teeth evenly…oh, yes, miracle would be the word I’m looking for…yes, I experienced a small, yet significant miracle…
Clockwise from top left: Detail of lining showing polka dot facing at neck edge, pattern matching on bodice back, a hint of polka dot in the pockets, and a closer look at the darts on the bodice front. This dress!!! Excuse my poor manners for not beginning with a gentle good day…but this dress is demanding a Look At Me! intro. Ahem, not just look at me, but wake up, look at me, skip the coffee, and go directly to paradise! Yes, I do love me my new dress. And I made it just for you Roisin…my little way of saying congratulations to you and Nic on your upcoming wedding! Now, for those not in the know, please allow me to fill you in a wee bit. You see, Roisin blogs at…
