***Meet the Mister*** Oh boy! I made it to the fourth round in the Super Online Sewing Match. And {drum roll}…it’s the menswear challenge! It was with a mixture of excitement and trepidation that I began work on the Colette Negroni. Men’s shirts are inherently simple looking, but in their simplicity, leave little room for error. I’d like to say that things went smoothly with nary a bump in the road, but alas, I hit a roadblock before even beginning to sew. I’ll tell you about it, but let me first assure you that once I got rolling again, the Colette Negroni pattern did not disappoint. I’m looking forward to sewing it again. Okay, onward to photos. It wasn’t super easy to photograph this fabric. Getting the top stitching and flat felled seams to show…
Whew! Round three of the Super Online Sewing Match! If you’re a new visitor to my blog, the SOSM is an online sewing contest sponsored by Sew Mama Sew and Janome. Each round, two contestants are eliminated. Immediately following the elimination, the remaining contestants are given a new sewing challenge. The subject of our third challenge…a tote bag. Specifically, It’s A Cinch! Tote PDF Bag Pattern from u-handbagspattern.com. The last time I sewed a tote or handbag was obviously in the dark ages. Cut two circles and one rectangle of fabric, add a zipper, and voila, the perfect hot dog shaped bag. Ugh! Fortunately, things have changed, and for the better! Cool patterns, endless zipper options, a large selection of handbag hardware, and fabric stabilizers. To be honest, the world of bag interlinings and interfacings, was a wee…
Hello Round Two! Our assignment, received last Wednesday, was the Oliver + S Roller Skate Dress. Oliver + S patterns are designed by Liesl Gibson. Liesl creates charming, contemporary sewing patterns for children’s clothing. Thank you Liesl, for my first opportunity to work with a downloaded PDF pattern. It won’t be my last! With this dress, I have now doubled the number of children’s clothing I’ve sewn. Yup, a grand total of two dresses. Years ago, I had the honor of sewing my niece’s wedding dress and I had enough fabric left over to make a sweet little flower girl dress for my great-niece. Honestly, I didn’t think there would be a greater sewing pressure than making a wedding dress for a loved one…and now here I am. {insert big, goofy smile!} …
Ta Da! I present to you my entry for The Super Online Sewing Match: Round One Challenge. This past week I have immersed myself in designing and sewing an A-Line Skirt. On Monday, each of the ten competitors received access to Deborah Moebes’ online course; Design and Sew An A-Line Skirt. I eagerly headed on over to Craftsy.com for my personalized class. Honestly, each of the eleven lessons that comprise the class were executed in such a personal and down to earth manner that it really did feel like Deborah was personally walking me through everything from taking accurate measurements, to the art of pattern drafting, and let’s not forget, sewing the skirt itself. I’ve had little time to peruse Craftsy.com, but a quick, in a wink glance, revealed 43 sewing classes alone, not to mention that they offer…
